Locks

Admins can lock specific years, versions, variables, or dimension members to prevent users from editing finalized or restricted data. Lock rules offer precise control over which parts of the model remain editable.

Overview

Lock rules

The Lock section in Farseer allows administrators to control data-editing rights by locking cells for specific years, versions, variables, or dimension combinations. This ensures that certain data remains fixed and cannot be modified by users.

Locking is especially useful once a dataset becomes final—for example, preventing changes to a previous year’s Actuals, or temporarily disabling input for a particular planning period or version.

Creating locks

To create a lock rule, click the “+” icon in the top-right corner.

Each rule lets you define exactly what should be locked:

  • A specific variable

  • One or more dimension tables

  • Individual members within those dimensions

  • A combination of variables, years, or versions

This granular control helps you protect finalized data, maintain consistency, and prevent unauthorized or accidental modifications during planning cycles.

Variable Lock Rule

When a lock rule includes a variable, that variable will follow only this specific rule.
Any other lock rules that might apply are ignored for that variable.

If you want to lock the entire variable—across all dimensions—leave the dimension section empty in the rule.
